PARIS (27 September, 2012) Nissan's innovative spirit and engineering skills take centre stage at Paris with the European motor show debut of its exciting project based on the NV200 van.

The New York City taxi is based on the multi-purpose NV200 compact van - a vehicle that has been introduced in 40 countries, selling over 120,000 units worldwide.

Hailed as the ‘Taxi of tomorrow', the NV200 New York City taxi is set to appear on the streets of ‘The Big Apple' at the end of 2013. After a rigorous, two-year competitive bid selection process, the New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC) selected the Nissan NV200 Taxi in May 2011 as the exclusive taxi of New York City.

Developed with help from New York taxi drivers, fleets and passengers, the NV200 New York City Taxi features a number of innovations designed to improve passenger comfort and reduce running costs. Among these are an Active Carbon Lined headliner that can neutralize interior odours, a mobile charging station for passengers, and a special breathable, antimicrobial seat fabric.

The NV200 New York City Taxi also offers greater protection for the 600,000 New Yorkers who take a cab every day. It is the only taxi in the USA to have been safety tested and certified with a full taxi partition, and is equipped with traction control and Vehicle Dynamic Control as standard. The NV200 London Taxi, NV200 New York City Taxi and NV200 Tokyo Taxi prove Nissan's commitment to providing clean, safe and affordable transport in the world's major cities.

But the work doesn't stop there. As part of its bold zero emissions strategy, Nissan is developing an electric version of the NV200 based on the eNV200 concept car showcased at the 2012 Detroit Motor Show. Trials of this exciting new vehicle - which has the potential to revolutionise urban taxi travel - will start in 2013.
